At Indian Paintbrush Farm, our two heritage turkeys, Theodore and Dorothy, bring warmth, personality, and a touch of magic to everyday life. They’re brothers who do everything together–wandering the lawn, showing off their beautiful feathers, and greeting visitors with curiosity and charm.

When they first arrived, we didn’t realize Dorothy was a boy, but by the time we did, the name had already stuck–and now it suits him perfectly. Theodore and Dorothy are inseparable companions, always side by side, sharing a bond that’s as endearing as it is entertaining.

Each day, they put on their own kind of show: a proud parade through the pasture, feathers fanned wide and shimmering in the light. Even without any female turkeys around, they dance and strut with confidence, showing off for the hens, the breeze, and anyone lucky enough to watch.

Turkeys are incredibly intelligent and expressive animals, and Theodore and Dorothy make that clear. The color of their skin changes with their moods, and their range of sounds reveals everything from excitement to calm contentment. They love music, respond to voices, and often join in when you clap or sing–adding their own gobbling chorus to the moment.

Gentle, social, and full of life, Theodore and Dorothy remind us every day how special turkeys truly are. Their presence brings laughter, connection, and a deeper appreciation for the animals we share our world with.
