Every sanctuary has its guardian–and for ours, that guardian has feathers, a gentle honk, and a spirit as golden as the morning sun. Meet Tofu, our beautiful American Buff goose, who was saved from slaughter at an auction in 2010 and brought to our farm as a trusting, curious gosling. From the very beginning, Tofu radiated warmth and confidence, quickly becoming the watchful protector of the hen yard and the devoted companion of his best friend, Bowie the duck.

Tofu’s story is one of trust, love, and belonging. His bold, proud squawk rings out across the farm–not in fear, but in protection, a heartfelt promise to keep his flock safe. When he’s not standing watch, you’ll find him joyfully splashing in his tub, preening his soft beige feathers, or settling into a lap for gentle pets and affection.

Tofu reminds us that rescue isn’t always about healing fear–sometimes, it’s about nurturing the trust that was naturally there. Once a baby full of hope, he’s grown into a loyal, loving guardian whose presence fills our sanctuary with peace and joy.
