Our Story

"Rooted and grounded in love."
Indian Paintbrush 🌿 Farm Sanctuary

We believe connection creates compassion.  Our sanctuary is also a place of learning, connection, and discovery. Through educational tours and animal encounters, plant-based nutrition and cooking classes, organic gardening workshops, forest bathing, meditation, sound therapy, yoga, and art experiences, we invite people to slow down, reconnect with nature, and develop meaningful relationships with animals and the Earth.

We believe that experiencing animals as sentient beings–not commodities–can transform fear and assumptions into empathy, understanding, and compassion. Inspired by the Anishinaabe understanding that healing and teaching are parallel paths, we honor Aki (Mother Earth) and our shared responsibility to care for all living beings for the next seven generations.

Our vision is bigger than a sanctuary.  As Indian Paintbrush grows, we envision expanding into extensive restorative retreats for women and children who have experienced abuse, trauma, or difficult life circumstances. We hope to create a safe, nurturing environment where participants can reconnect with themselves through relationships with animals, time in nature, nourishing plant-based food, gardening, art, meditation, yoga, forest bathing, and other restorative experiences.

We envision a place where animals are teachers, nature is a sanctuary, and healing becomes a path toward hope. Your support helps us build this future.  Your support provides essential lifelong care for our rescued animals today while helping us build the educational, healing, and retreat programs of tomorrow. You are helping create a place where compassion can change lives. Join us in creating a kinder world.

For the Animals. For Aki. For the Next Seven Generations.
